Dishonored

For the past few weeks I've been seeing various videos highlighted on essentially every major gaming news site about Dishonored, and with good reason. The role of the assassin has always held a special place in my heart and has been my traditional role in nearly every game that has allowed me access to an assassin archetype. Now Bethesda is looking to take the concept of an assassin and develop it in a way we haven't exactly seen before...

Dishonored's protagonist, Corvo, is a wrongly accused ex-bodyguard to the Empress who is given supernatural abilities by a mysterious man in order to avert his execution and right the wrongs that led to Corvo's imprisonment. So far we've been given access to at least some of the powers which include: Teleporting short distances (blinking), corporeal possession of nearly any living being, stopping time, and causing some kind of explosions with your hand. Just with these abilities in mind I can already dream up a multitude of ways to do away with my opponents and I'm sure there is plenty we still have yet to see.

Dishonored seems all well and good with the super-assassin Corvo but that wasn't the main selling point for me personally. One of the advertised perks Dishonored brings to the table is the player's ability to go about each of the missions in a wide variety of ways. From summoning a herd of rats to devour your target to possessing them up until the moment you hurl them off their 5th story balcony, Dishonored has promised gamers a truly diverse experience that is suited to their chosen approach.

The player's choices also have an impact on their surroundings in the sense that if they solve their problems with up front violence the townsfolk and even the guards will react accordingly. Conversely if you solve your problems through the use of non-violence coupled with the occasional "accident" the world may hardly notice your hand guiding the ensuing destruction. Personally, this is going to be a huge selling point for me as I enjoy going back through games and trying out the various methods for success.

There is plenty more to be said about this tantalizing stealth action gem but I'll leave it at that until there is more confirmed information! Look forward to seeing Dishonored in stores later this year! (Hopefully!)

Thanks for reading!
